Millions of guests dream and enjoy a vacation at Walt Disney World Resort every year, which is no surprise as the property is packed with unforgettable experiences at Disney Parks, Disney Resorts and Disney Springs. With so many guests visiting year round there really is no such thing as a slow season and crowds have just become the norm and to be expected. While crowds can definitely be a nuisance, leading to busy walkways, long waits, and general frustration, there are some simple tips and tricks you can follow to avoid the chaos.

Want to avoid the crowds? We’ve got you covered with these simple steps!

Enjoy the early mornings and late nights

One of the easiest ways to avoid crowds is to strategically visit Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, either early in the morning or later at night. While a vacation at Walt Disney World Resort can be exhausting, it’s still a vacation and many guests enjoy sleeping in or going early into the night to get some rest. This can result in lower crowds early in the morning or very late at night, resulting in shorter wait times and quieter areas of the parks. Visiting first thing in the morning or late at night is also wonderful, as temperatures are cooler, making exploring any Disney Park much more enjoyable than in the high heat and humidity of the afternoon.

Go against the crowds

With every Disney park opening in the morning, many guests tend to head straight to popular attractions to kickstart the day. While this isn’t a bad idea and can result in an important experience being skipped first, it often creates bottlenecks and controlled chaos to get from the entrance to the attraction. Guests looking to avoid the rush to popular attractions should instead intentionally plan to go against the crowd and visit less popular options, which tend to be very quiet in the mornings. For example, instead of going straight to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom, guests could instead visit Adventureland and enjoy attractions like the Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean without waiting in line. Another example would be going straight to Na’vi River Journey instead of Avatar Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Dine outside of times

Dining at the Walt Disney World Resort is one of the best experiences guests can enjoy while on vacation, and table service and quick-serve restaurants can get extremely crowded during popular dining times, resulting in long lines and unavailable reservations. A great way to avoid crowds and still enjoy wonderful dining options is to intentionally eat outside of hours. If you’re having a late breakfast or an early dinner, the quick service restaurants will be much quieter than normal meal times, and the table service restaurants are likely to have reservations available.

avoid holidays

It should go without saying, but at Walt Disney World Resort, vacations are always a lot busier. Whether it’s school holidays like the summer or spring break when the kids are off, or popular holidays like Halloween and Christmas when all guests are keen to enjoy the festivities, the holidays are always significantly busier. By planning a vacation to avoid vacations, the crowds will definitely be less, resulting in less stress and less waiting. Some great non-holiday times to visit are late January, early May and early November.

Enjoy events throughout the week

Many special events are held at Walt Disney World Resort throughout the year, including a number of festivals held at EPCOT, primarily at World Showcase. The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival and more have become extremely popular with guests, offering unique experiences, dining options and more that guests can literally enjoy for days. Every year the festivals seem to have longer and longer running times which is great as more guests can enjoy the fun. While attending a festival at EPCOT will always be a memorable one, weekends can be extremely crowded thanks to many locals also keen to join in the fun. Guests who want to enjoy the festivals without the crazy crowds should definitely plan to do so Monday through Thursday.

Skip the bus and use Uber

This might be a little controversial, but it helps avoid crowds. Disney Transportation is a complimentary service available to guests throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. Guests can easily travel from one point to another using a variety of modes of transportation, including the monorail, boats, Disney Skyliner, buses, and more. Buses are the busiest form of Disney transportation as they are offered at every Disney resort and are the only form of Disney transportation at some. This causes the buses to be particularly crowded at peak times, such as just before each Disney park opens or closes for the day. One way to avoid those crowds is to opt for an Uber or Lyft instead, which of course will cost guests a fee. But it usually takes a fraction of the time, is much quieter than a crowded bus, and can drop guests off near the main entrance of most Disney parks. Guests who want to get to a Disney park late or with less stress during busy times should definitely consider a ride service.
