The award follows a 2021-22 academic year in which the Wildcats won three BIG EAST team titles, continued to shine for the elite academic performance of Villanova’s student-athletes, and continued to serve charitable causes.

“Academic and athletic achievement, as well as active engagement in local communities, are hallmarks of BIG EAST institutions, and we congratulate the student-athletes of Villanova on their exceptional achievements in all of these areas during the 2021-22 school year,” said BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman . “We commend Father Peter Donohue, Mark Jacksonand the outstanding coaches and administrators at Villanova for their leadership and commitment to developing all sides of Wildcat athletes and equipping these extraordinary young people for success in the adult world.”

Established in 2015 by the Presidents of the League, the BIG EAST Presidents’ Award is presented to the conference institution that has excelled in the previous academic year at the highest level in the fields of scholarship, sports and citizenship. Villanova won the inaugural station in 2014-15 and was also named a Presidents’ Award winner in 2015-16 and 2017-18.

“On behalf of the entire Villanova community, we congratulate our student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators on their continued recognition of the BIG EAST Presidents’ Award,” said University President Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD. “You continue to be remarkable ambassadors for Villanova by exemplifying our university values in everything you do academically, sportingly and in the community. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.”

Last school year, Villanova won BIG EAST titles in women’s swimming and diving, men’s basketball and men’s softball. From an individual standpoint, the Wildcats earned well over 100 All-BIG EAST honors and produced dozens of conference champions in track and field, as well as swimming and diving. Villanova student-athletes continue to set the benchmark for classroom achievement, earning a program-record six BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards.

“We are incredibly honored to once again receive the Presidents’ Award from the BIG EAST Conference, one of the premier conferences in the country,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Jackson. “This honor is shared by our entire campus community, from the unwavering support of President Father Peter Donohue, who is unwavering in our success, to the tireless work of Villanova Athletics coaches, sports administration and support staff.
