If the answer is yes, Ely Sailing Club and Training Center might have the answer for you.

Ely Sailing Club is based at Roswell Pits in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Sailing is always interesting, challenging and fun.

We are a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Approved Training Center offering a range of Sailing Courses, Power Boating Courses and First Aid Courses.

The club is family oriented and run by its members for its members, offering great value for money and fun for all.

We offer a wide variety of training options and teach children and adults who need to learn the basics.

Anyone taking an RYA course for the first time will receive a complimentary membership for the season.

Our facilities, equipment and processes are inspected annually by the RYA. During the sessions there is always a lifeboat on the water.

RYA sailing courses for adults

RYA Sailing Course for Adults – Level 1

The aim of the RYA Level 1 dinghy sailing courses is to provide a well-founded introduction to sailing.

You will learn basic skills in handling the boat and important background knowledge.

With an instructor and two other students on board, learning your first steps becomes an exciting and fun experience. Ideal for complete beginners or those who have only sailed a little.

No previous knowledge required, minimum age 16 years.

RYA Sailing Course for Adults – Level 2

After completing the RYA Level 2 dinghy sailing course, the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be able to sail in light winds without an instructor on board. During the course, a controlled recovery after a capsize is carried out with the presence of a lifeboat.

Level 1 or other experience. Minimum age: 16 years.

RYA Young Sailors Scheme

The RYA Young Sailors Scheme was developed to encourage young people to learn to sail in stages.

The minimum age for all our courses is 8 years.

Because each of the levels is expressed in terms of competences, it gives trainers the flexibility to sign off on any part of the syllabus if competence in that skill is demonstrated. No one can fail – they might just need a little more time and experience. Sailing is a sport that gets better with practice and you should try to sail between courses whenever you can. Practice creates masters.

Certificates are not only awarded for attending a course.

Our goal is to make sure they had a lot of fun, learned a lot and want to continue sailing in the future.

The certificates under our Youth Sailing Scheme are a significant achievement. Instructors certify each skill as you complete it and once completed your certificate can be useful in other areas of your studies or activities such as physical education at school or the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.
