Final Event Of NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series At Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park To Be Held In 2023 – Motor Sports NewsWire – Motor Sports Newswire | Gmx Pharm

SAN DIMAS, CA — March 26, 2022 — (Motor Sports NewsWire) — The final NHRA Arizona Nationals will be held during the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season when Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park concludes its run at the NHRA track .

After bringing nearly 40 years of drag racing excitement and unforgettable performances to NHRA fans, a new overpass/roadway to extend Interstate 10 will utilize the space currently occupied by the track.

“Arizona has been an incredible supporter of the NHRA and Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park over the past four decades, and we are extremely grateful for this tremendous fan support,” said Elizabeth Antone, Interim General Manager, Wild Horse Pass Development Authority. “We know this final race will be a celebration that NHRA fans are famous for.”

“We would like to thank Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park and the community of Gila River for their dedicated commitment to drag racing,” said NHRA President Glen Cromwell. “The NHRA Arizona Nationals has provided countless memories for NHRA fans for many years, and our race teams, partners and NHRA officials look forward to celebrating the track in 2023 as we close this chapter in NHRA history.”

As NHRA looks to the future, it will focus on venues not currently on the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series circuit to fill the space of the Phoenix event beginning in the 2024 season.

“We remain focused on making the NHRA an incredible experience for our fans, race teams and partners, and we are working on several new goals,” said Cromwell. “With interest from multiple NHRA member tracks in each region across the country, we are excited about the possibilities for a future national NHRA event.”

The NHRA’s long-running “duel in the desert” became a fixture in the Southwest beginning in 1985, and the NHRA Arizona Nationals have been a favorite of race teams and fans over the years. Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park has also been the site of several historic and record-breaking achievements throughout its long history, including Tony Schumacher’s historic 330-mile run in 1999 and his record-breaking pass in 2018.

Schumacher has five career wins under his belt, while Funny Car legend John Force leads all drivers with eight wins at Phoenix. Matt Hagan set the Funny Car track record at this year’s February event, clocking 3.823 seconds at 333.41, while Brittany Force clocked 3.643 at 337.92 to set the top fuel circuit records in 2020. Mike Salinas (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car) and Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock) all won in front of a huge crowd at the 2022 race.

The date and ticket information for the NHRA Arizona Nationals Historic Finals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park will be announced at a later date.
