Chris Cantrell got the shock of his life diving when he encountered a record-breaking 90-pound fish.

On Labor Day weekend, Chris Cantrell and two friends went looking for striped bass. As Cantrell descended to about 20 feet for his third dive, he saw a large fish. He swam closer to check and saw it was a spoonbill, so he aimed and fired. After struggling for almost 15 minutes to get the fish in the boat, he managed to pull it on board. The fish ended up weighing over 90 pounds, and with the current record spearfishing spoonbill of 70 pounds, it broke the world record. He has already submitted his paperwork to get himself in the record books, which may take almost a month to become official. He’s already planning to get back on the lake this weekend with plans to fish the world record striped bass as his next target.
