Backpacker Radio No. 159 | shayla "Smaller" Paradeis on hiking without a smartphone and healing from trauma – The Trek | Gmx Pharm

IJoining us on today’s episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek is Shayla “Kiddo” Paradeis. Shayla is a very accomplished backpacker, and the triple crown only scratches the surface of her hiking resume, but it’s her approach to backpacking that makes this conversation stand out. We chat about what it’s like to go hiking without a smartphone in this day and age, including the differences, staying in touch with hikers, navigating the trail, checking the weather forecast and more. Shayla also shares her experiences of healing on the trail and how her experiences as a sexual assault survivor have played an important role in her desire to be in the backcountry. Another warning to listeners: If the topic of sexual assault is particularly appealing to you, we recommend you continue about halfway through today’s interview.

We end the show with the triple crown of reasons to go to a baseball game, we check in with MG as she just hiked the 100-mile wilderness, we discuss things that feel like cheating but aren’t are (but also sort of are), and say hello to a couple who got engaged at the PCT this year!
